History
The Asian American Senior Citizens Association was founded by Mr. Tseng I. Chao (趙增義), a previous Executive Director of the Chinese Community Center, and Mr. Alex Wu (吳樾), a previous president of the Lions Club with the support of Huang Jinchun, 黃錦春 , Lu Cheng, 陸誠, Ye Changqing, 葉長青, Wang Mingxian, 王名賢, Wen Ziqi,文子奇, Yu Peng, 余鵬, Lin Jiyuan, 林紀元, Fang Zushan, 方祖善, and other respected figures in the Chinese community on October, 28th, 1990. The association initially had 172 members and organized monthly gatherings with various activities such as gymnastics, Chinese painting, tai chi, ballroom dancing, English classes. President Chao introduced various policies, including carpooling for transportation, group activities based on members' interests, a monthly magazine, and collaborations with other organizations. These policies continue to be pursued by subsequent presidents. The association has over 790 members who participate in a wide range of activities, including line dancing, aerobic exercise, mahjong, karaoke, and outings. The Chongyang Choir and Chinese Instrumental Ensemble have showcased their talents in various performances. Collaboration with the Lions Club has provided access to medical lectures and flu vaccinations.
